An easier day, every day.
We agree the city needs change.
I’m running
to get it done.
The governing thesis
We all want more housing, lively streets, and transit that runs on time. The progressive model and the moderate model get treated like rival teams when they should be sharing a playbook.
San Francisco doesn’t have a values problem. We have a coordination problem, and coordination problems have solutions.
The Platform
Five promises for District 8.
Get the basics right
Childcare waitlists and 311 cases that feel open forever. The city leaves work unfinished. I won’t.
Read more →Actually build housing
The city approves homes it never builds. I’ll fix the steps between “yes” and a foundation in the ground.
Read more →Fund transit and fix it
The J Church should be a line you trust, not a line you dread. I’ll push to fund it and demand the itemized receipt.
Read more →Spend smarter on safety
Feeling safe and being safe aren’t the same thing. D8’s safety spending treats them like they are. I won’t.
Read more →Keep the lights on
A new business shouldn’t have to survive City Hall before it survives the market. I’ll fix the process.

Every proposal. Every number. Every honest limitation.

New to Darshini?
The short version.
First-generation American. Born and raised in the Bay Area. Apparently incapable of sitting anything out. I’ve worked in the White House, on two presidential campaigns, and at a company that scaled from 15 cities to over 7,000. Noe Valley is home. I’d like it to work better.
Three things I’ll do first: launch a publicly available housing tracker so nothing stalls in the dark, update the permitting rules that block new childcare slots, and collect the vacancy tax that 40% of property owners have never filed.

Housing
What does it actually take to turn a housing approval into a building?
San Francisco’s zoning problem is a construction problem now more than ever. 56,000 approved units have never secured construction permits, and no public system tracks why they’re stalled.
